Fire Prevention Day - Station 48

Under a crisp blue sky, almost 600 children made their way to Station 48, this past Monday with fire prevention on their minds. Our Fire Company had 13 stations set up in the parking lot for the children to visit. Among our guests were, Harrington Fire Company with their Ladder Truck, Wal-Mart with their Blind Spot Semi Truck, DNREC with their Hazmat Science Trailer, DAFB with their Crash Unit, Millsboro Fire Company’s Smoke House, Kent County Paramedics, Town of Felton Police Department, State of Delaware Police Department, State of Delaware Fire Marshall’s Office, and Delaware State Fire School’s 911 simulator. Not to mention our own stations, Engine 48-4, Brush Truck 48-0, Ambulance A-48, and our famous movie theater and popcorn which taught age appropriate messages about fire prevention. We also had two celebrities there for the day, our own Sparky and Little Freddie. A tow truck visual display was strategically placed showing a wrecked car in tow. Our visitors came from, Rosebud Pots Daycare, Building Blocks Academy, Little Spartans Pre-K, and all students from Lake Forest North Elementary. A special thank you goes out to Chambers Bus Service for getting some of these children to our facility. Organizing such an event takes several individuals to pull this off. Among the 30 members and auxiliary, we also had 12 Lake Forest High School students from Leadership Class volunteer their time as guides for each group that participated. They were a huge help keeping the young students on track. At the end of the day, we were certain that the children had valuable information to take home and share with their families of the exciting day they had at Station 48 and the knowledge of what to do in case of any type of emergency. Thank you to each and every person that participated in this event. Together, members, auxiliary, teachers, administrators, agencies, and the students themselves, we can help save lives and property in our community.
