Lillian Anna Stayton
Lillian Anna Stayton of Felton passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013.
Mrs. Stayton supported her husband with his horse racing career. Together they owned and trained trotters. They raced often at area tracks as well as ones in New Jersey and New York. They've been to Rose Croft, Liberty Bell, Brandywine, Freeholt Raceway, Yonkers, N.Y., as well as Dover and Harrington. One of their prized horses, HT Flak won over $100,000 in New York alone. One of her favorite activities was playing cards with her brothers.
Mrs. Stayton attended the Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington. She came from a large family, as she was the fourth child from a family of 13. She will be sadly missed by her close family and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold T. Stayton; brothers, Auther, Floyd, Clarence, Harry, Edgar; sister, Pearl Carlisle Smith; sister in laws, Margeret Shaffer Carlisle, Florence Touchon Carlisle, Anna Kovach Carlisle, Irene Kovach Carlisle; brother in laws, Byron Kemp, Ralph Smith; grandson, Bert Vangorder.
Mrs. Stayton is survived by children and spouses, Loretta Stayton (Robert) Brickley of Dover, James (Helga) Stayton of Kentucky, Thomas (Mary Ann) Stayton of Felton, Joanna (Gary) Wroten of New Jersey; grandchildren, Kert Vangorder, Rick Vangorder, Harold Stayton, Jr., Trich Stayton, Saunie Stayton Garramone, Thomas Stayton Jr., David (Susan) Clayville, Danny Clayville; many great grandchildren; brothers and sister in laws, Roland Carlisle, Lester (Katherine) Carlisle, Leon (Doris) Carlisle, Ernest (Dorothy) Carlisle, Harold (Dianne) Carlisle; sister, Thelma Carlisle Kemp.
Lillian became a member of the Felton Community Fire Company Auxiliary in 1962 and served for several years.
