Elsie Hurd Garey
Elsie H. Garey, 74, of Main St., Felton, died Thursday [August 1, 1974] in the Milford Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born September 15, 1899, the daughter of Thomas W. and Rachel Kemp Hurd.
Her husband, Rix M. Garey died March 7, 1957. She is survived by two sons, Rix M. Jr. of Felton; Thomas of Marydel; five daughters, Anna Belle Brown, Thelma Myers, Betty Glanden, Louise Fisher, all of Felton, and Phyllis Cantrell of Dover; sister, Mattie Edwards of Greensboro, Md.; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Interment was in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro, MD.
Elsie was a charter member of the Felton Community Fire Company Auxiliary. Other family members include her husband, Rex Garey, Sr. and son, Rex, Jr. who were both charter members of the FCFC. Daughters, Anna Belle Garey Brown, was a charter member of the Auxiliary; Thelma Garey Myers was a member of the Auxiliary and her husband, Bill Myers Sr. was a life member of the FCFC. Her grandson, Gary Brown, was a life and 50+ year member of the Milford Carlisle Fire Company. As of this writing, Elsie’s daughter, Betty Garey Glanden is a past member of the Auxiliary; and daughter, Louise Garey Fisher, has joined the high esteem ranks of life and 50+ year member of the Auxiliary. Additionally, Grandson, Bill Myers, Jr is a life and 50+ year member of the FCFC. Granddaughter, Betty Louise Myers is a member and vice president of the Auxiliary. Great-grandsons, Randall J. Myers is a life member and Ryan Myers is a member of the FCFC. What a family tradition, Mrs. Elsie Hurd Garey has set for her family.
