Freda Kelley

FELTON – Freda Woikoski Kelley passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at her home.  She was born in the small coal-mining town of Scalp Level, PA to the late Paul and Agnes (Holden) Woikoski on January 23, 1929.  Freda’s family relocated to Felton when she was two years old.

Freda married Thomas “Tom” Legates Kelley on September 25, 1948.  She enjoyed her 39 year career in banking from 1954 to 1993, with her first seven years at Delaware Trust and 32 years at Felton Bank.  She was a member of the Lions Club and also both Frederica and Harrington Senior Centers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Tom, in 1987.

Freda is survived by  her sons, Michael Kelley and special friend, Dawn Windett, and David Kelley and wife Libby; three grandsons, Scott, Derrick and Justin; brother Paul Woikoski and wife Ann; sister, Helen O’Day; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service was held at the Felton Community Fire Company.  Burial was private.

Freda joined the FCFC Auxiliary in February 1963.  She continued serving to become a Life Member and in 2013 became a 50 year member.  Freda was active those many years working in the dining room.  We often wonder how many plates of oysters our 50+ year members have served.  We do know Freda served many and never minded teaching our new members how to do just that.  In later years, Freda would still come when we needed just one more person.  Even in her later years she came to help cut up chicken for our famous chicken salad.

Freda’s family were also members of our organization.  Her Mother, Agnes Woikoski, was a Charter and Life Member of the FCFC Auxiliary.  Her father, Paul Woikoski, was a Life Member of the FCFC.  Her grandmother-in-law, Mary Kelley was an Auxiliary Charter Member.  Her mother-in-law, Edna Kelley, was a Charter Member and Life Member of the Auxiliary.  Her father-in-law, Harry “Stoke” Kelley was a Charter Member of the FCFC.  Her brother-in-law, William Kelley, was also a Charter Member of the FCFC.  Freda’s son, Mike Kelley was previously a member of the FCFC.  Her son, David, currently serves as Mayor to the Town of Felton.
