Betty Baker
FELTON - Betty Lou Baker died Monday, December 7, 2020 at Kent General Hospital. Betty was born April 20, 1940 in Dover, Delaware to the late Howard and Letha Emerson Shubrooks.
She worked for the Dover Federal Credit Union from 1959 till 1967 when she left on maternity leave. Once returning to work she worked for the Delaware State Highway Employee Credit Union later becoming Del-One retiring in 1992. She was a member of the DSFWC Avon Club of Felton and the Harrington Senior Center. Betty was active in fundraising for local charities such as Camp Lenape, and school scholarships. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, poker, going to the casino, cooking, and decorating but especially spending time with her friends and granddaughters.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Watson Baker, Jr.
Betty is survived by her son, William H. “Billy” Baker and his wife LuAnn of Milford; grandchildren, Kimberly Edwards and Riley Baker; sister, Ellen E. Cowgill and her husband Charlie of Smyrna. Private funeral services and interment were held on Saturday, December 12, 2020.
Betty joined the FCFC Auxiliary in 1976 and became a life member in 2001. This year was a culmination of 44 years with the auxiliary. She served as Asst. Treasurer, served on many committees and could be found serving dinners in the dining room. Her husband, Watson, was also an auxiliary member. Her son, Billy, joined the FCFC in 1985 and during his membership served as Treasurer and Financial Secretary before transferring to the Houston Volunteer Fire Company (Station 52). He currently serves as a Safety Officer. Billy continues his fire service by working for the Delaware Fire School.
