Annual Appreciation Night - Station 48

The Officers and Members of the Felton Community Fire Company, Inc. gathered to celebrate accomplishments over the last year. This night was a highlight of many great accomplishments that occurred in the community. The Auxiliary of the Fire Company, which is composed of a group of men and women from Felton and the surrounding area were honored for their 70 years of service. The Auxiliary Members host many fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds to support the Fire Company in purchasing equipment and fire apparatus. The Felton Auxiliary presented President Ken Ryder with the purchase of a Zoll Auto Pulse, which is a CPR assist device.
As the night continued individuals were recognized for their outstanding support and dedication. The Auxiliary recognized the following members for 50-years of service: Dorthy Dill, Fern Harrington, and Mary Green. Mrs. Betty Ann Walters was recognized for 25-years of service while Pam Altemus for 15 years.

Harry C. Rawding EMS Person of the Year- Katie L. Killen
This award is awarded to a member of the fire company who takes an active roll in EMS.
Katie joined the Felton Fire Company in 2004. She is very dedicated and goes above and beyond the expectations of a member. When there is an administrative task that needed to be complete, she will actively complete the task and demonstrate her outstanding organizational skills. Katie will volunteer her time to cover for the career staff during emergencies or sicknesses.
E.B. Warrington & CW Reynolds EMS Attendant of the Year- Rodney S. Simons
This award is awarded to an individual who provides care to patients and shows exemplary service to the department in the EMS field. Rodney is a team player and shows this when responding on various alarms to assist the public. While in the fire station he is able to complete assigned training and projects on time and is eager to do so with minimal supervision. He completed their Emergency Medical Responder course with a 99% and since then has responded to various EMS Calls as the only EMS provider while our 1st run unit was out on an emergency.
Joseph H. Griffith Firefighter of the Year- Rodney S. Simons
The Joseph H. Griffith award is earned by a member of the department who goes above and beyond the calls for service during the year. This is demonstrated in conduct and work ethic while serving the citizens of Felton and Kent County, Delaware. Rodney has been aggressive in completing fire school classes and is eager to learn. During the week on Monday night training, he attends almost 100% of the training. When you look at him you can tell that the Felton Community Fire Company is in his heart, and he truly enjoys being a volunteer member. Simons work ethic is unmatched and the compassion and respect that he shows to his fellow peers is evident in his everyday behavior.
Lifesaver Award
On the morning of March 30, 2009 at 7:11am, the Felton Community Fire Company was dispatched for a person not breathing, just outside of town. The first arriving EMS unit arrived on location to find a male patient not breathing and in cardiac arrest. The crew delivered one shock using an automated external defibrillator. Minutes later a crew of firefighters arrived to assist with compressions and ventilations. The patient was loaded and transported to the hospital where aggressive treatment was continued.
Today, the patient has since recovered 100% and is now enjoying his life with family and friends.
