Oscar Bishop

Oscar Bishop, Jr., 91 of Felton, DE passed away at home surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. He was the son of the late Oscar and Elnora Bishop.

While Oscar’s main occupation was farming, he also worked at the Texaco service station in Dover, as a machinery mechanic for Taylor & Messick, and school bus driver which he greatly enjoyed.  He was a 50-year life member of the Felton Fire Co, a member of the Felton United Methodist Church, and Frederica Sr. Center.

In his free time, Oscar enjoyed camping with the “Happy Hour Gang” a division of the Delaware Family Campers Association, gardening, and watching the Baltimore Orioles. He was well known for his fudge and cooking.  Oscar was very easy going, cheerful, dedicated, and a reliable, hard worker.  He was very family oriented and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Oscar was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia Bishop; brothers, LeRoy, Louis, Edgar, Jacob, Milton, and George; and sisters, Edith Melvin, Ellen Mackey, Priscilla Bishop, and Alice Bishop.

Oscar is survived by his son, Michael (Celeste) Bishop; daughters, Debbie Bishop (friend, Don Spencer) and Brenda Pernol (friend, Paul Richard); 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Kate Breeding, Elnora Jackson; and other extended family.

Services for Oscar will be on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at  Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy, Harrington, at 6:00 PM.  A visitation for family and friends will start two hours prior from 4 PM to 6PM.  Interment will take place privately at the Chester Cemetery, Chestertown, MD.
