Smoke in Residence
August 19, 2015
On Wednesday August 19, 2015 around 1030 hours Station 48 was alerted for smoke in the residence on Macanny Ln. Engine 48-4 responded with past chief K Sipple to find a single story SFD as reported. An investigation was completed to find an air unit burnt up on the exterior of the structure. The alarm was placed under control within minutes.

Vehicle Fire w/ Exposures
August 2, 2015
At 1730 hours Sta 48 was alerted for a vehicle fire with possible extension into a trailer along the 3300 block of Berrytown Rd. Engine 48-4 responded under the direction of Past Chief K. Sipple to find a vehicle fully involved with smoke inside the structure. Engine 48-4 extinguished the vehicle fire and protected the exposure. Engine 48-3 arrived, and forced entry into the trailer finding that extension was minimal.

Working Barn Fire
June 30, 2015
Just before 3PM Station 48 was alerted for a possible barn fire at the 200 block of John Hurd Rd. Engine 48-4 responded under the direction of Assistant Chief C Clough to find a 100 by 60 barn fully involved. Engine 4 laid 1200' of supply line, and was supplied by tanker 48-5. Multiple handlines were placed in service, and the fire was brought under control in 3 hours. Stations 50, 41, 55, 600, & 700 all assisted on the alarm.

Visit to the Governor's Office
April 28, 2015
This past Tuesday, April 28th was designated as Volunteer Firefighter’s Day at Legislative Hall. During the day DVFA members attending met with their respective legislators in the House and Senate to say “thank you” for last year’s legislative support and to discuss this year’s legislative issues and problems . Members of the DVFA Executive Committee met with Governor Markell on Tuesday April 28th. This meeting was held to review current firefighter issues with the Governor and to relay our “thanks” for the support that we received from the Governor and Legislature for the bills passed during last year’s session. Members from left to right are: DVFA Treasurer Allen Metheny, DVFA Executive Manager-Warren Jones, DVFA President-Anthony Guzzo, Governor Jack Markell, New Castle County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association President- Wally Poppe and Kent County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association President-Ken Ryder.
